Other superb local attractions are easily reached by car such as Beamish the Living Museum of the North a must see for a full day out and a fun trip on a steam train at nearby Tanfield Railway. For shopping culture river trips magnificent cathedrals and history in abundance why not have a couple of days out in the cities of Newcastle and Durham. The beach at Tynemouth is only 16 miles and of course there is the whole of Northumberland to explore both coast and countryside.
