The property originally formed the defensive entrance to the village rectory and a courtyard of medieval buildings the rectory and outbuildings were rebuilt in 1698 and then demolished in the 19th century but the gatehouse escaped intact. In the village there is a pub and Post Office. The village benefits from its proximity to the A64 and A1/M1 link offering easy access to Leeds. Nearby Tadcaster has extensive local facilities and the historic city of York is just eight miles away and offers many art galleries and museums to explore along with racing at York Racecourse. Head up the steep stairs to the first floor and the impressive vaulted ceiling and open-plan lounge/diner/sleeping area will be sure to impress. The dining area has table which provides a romantic setting for a special dinner. Move over to the comfortable sofa or sink into an armchair after dinner put your feet up and watch something on the TV. Come bedtime retire to the sleeping area with unique four-poster super-king-size bed and get a good nights rest.
