Five miles west of the cottage is Lake Windermere the most-visited and largest of the lakes. There is plenty to see and do both on the lake and on the lakeside ranging from water sports and boat trips to pretty towns historic castles and scenic walks. The nearby village of Staveley boasts a 1388 church a range of shops and a few inns offering restorative hearty meals. Those with an interest in culture and history are also well-catered for in the area with the stately home at Sizergh Castle lying six miles south of the property and is a fascinating destination for a day out particularly when coupled with a stop at Sizergh Barn a fantastic farm shop and tearoom. The front door of this property opens at the top of a small flight of stairs which lead into the hallway with exposed oak beams and dark wood flooring.
