The cottage is one of four properties set within the courtyard and there is also a pleasant sun-trap shared garden to enjoy. Stroll the streets of Appledore with its maze of narrow lanes and closely packed brightly painted cottages which are decorated with hanging baskets and were the former homes of fishermen. The Maritime Museum in Appledore explains the history of the village and there are pleasant walks along the bustling quayside and along the river towards Bideford. A variety of pubs and restaurants in the village offer a wide range of cuisine and local seafood or visit some of the galleries showcasing local arts and crafts. A seasonal ferry takes passengers across the estuary to the pretty little village of Instow with its sheltered stretch of sandy beach 17th century pier and cosmopolitan yacht club. For beach lovers the 2 miles of golden sandy surfing beach at Westward Ho! is under 1 mile and there are other attractions and leisure facilities all within easy reach. The pannier market town of Bideford is a 10-minute drive with its shops and restaurants and is home to The Oldenburg for day trips to Lundy Island.
